How Many Lessons Do I Need To Get Better??

This is a question often asked by many beginner golfers. The answer to this question will vary depending on what kind of goals you have. During sessions I will often point out that the ideal amount for improvement is one lesson per week as long as you're able to at least hit two buckets of range balls per week and a 9 hole course session. However you could space them fortnightly if you're not able to practice this frequently. I wouldn't recommend spacing them more than a fortnight as it is very easy to fall into bad habits.

Now the answer to how many lessons you need will come down to a variety of factors. Firstly what kind of goal are you trying to achieve for example Breaking 100, 90, 80? Secondly what time period are hoping to achieve the particular goal and thirdly what starting pointing are we at currently with your game. The answer to these questions can be deciphered through an Evaluation where swing analysis will occur as well what kind of availability you have for golf practice.

As a general guide for those who have just started the game, 6 weekly lessons is often recommended as a great starting point for learning the game. This is where we will focus on basic fundamentals including the grip, stance and posture. We will also work on drills that work on the basic motion of the golf swing. This amount of lessons should give your a good framework in how to get the ball up in the air as well some understanding on how to fix your errant shots.

Now for those who are more experienced with specific goals, we will be largely using technology to understand how long it will take for improvement. I will use golf video software which will analyze the swing and then have the student complete certain drills for improvement. We will then track their improvement over a 4 week cycle seeing whether these changes are coming into effect and whether any changes need to occur in the drills being used or how the practice sessions are performed. I will be having the student also keep statistics of every round played to ensure we are reaching the desired goals.
