Inside Look In Your Golf Bag

Writer: daviwatersdaviwaters

When you fist commence golf, it can be quite complex to understand what all the clubs in your bag mean. There are really five different clubs that you will see. One is a putter which is typically the shortest in the bag. The shape of the clubhead can vary (circular or flat) however the angle at the front of the club is quite flat. The second club is an iron which are all numbered clubs typically ranging from SW-5 Iron. These are thin shaped steel heads with different angles at the front of the club depending on the iron.

The next club is a wood (typically made of steel or titanium these days) which is quite circular in shape and considerably long. Most golfers have one wood which is the 3 wood which will be your second longest club behind your driver. The next is your hybrid where the shape is a thinner version of a wood. These will go further than your irons but not as far as your woods. These typically include a 3 and 4 Hybrid. The last is your driver which is the longest club in your bag. This is the same shape as the wood but oversized. This will be typically used when commencing the hole.

Now the differences between the irons is simply the higher the number, the shorter the ball will travel. The PW and SW are the irons that go the shortest distance. The difference between these two is that the SW has 56 degrees of loft versus the PW has 48 Degrees of loft. The SW will also go a little shorter than the PW as the shaft is a little shorter in length. The next longest club after the PW is the 9 iron. From there as the numbers get lower, the club lengthens by half an inch and the loft of the club decreases by four degrees each time. The distance will also be around 10 metres difference per club therefore a 9 iron will be 20 metres shorter than your 7 iron.

Now the 3 and 4 hybrid will go longer in distance than your irons. The loft once again is decreasing by 4 degrees with the shaft increasing. The next club is your 3 wood. This club is longer again compared to your hybrid. The length difference can be up to 1 to 1.5 inches longer than your 3 hybrid. The loft of this club is typically 15 degrees. The last club, the driver, ranges in loft from 8 degrees to 15 degrees. This club is typically 2 inches longer than your 3 wood. The size of the head is also at 460 CC (Cubic Centimetres) which is largest allowable limit.
