Often times I will see players going for a practice session and because they may have the intention to work on their longer clubs for eg. Driver, they tend to not only start their session with these clubs but predominately only use these clubs for the total duration. Using these clubs too much during practice not only fatigues you faster but tends to make you more vulnerable in conditioning bad habits. As you are probably aware any issue you have in your swing becomes exaggerated when using a longer club.
Therefore when wanting to work on your longer clubs, still focus mainly on your shorter ones for eg. PW to 8 iron when trying to improve your technique. Once your swing is improving in the right direction by confirmation of a golf pro or if you're able to fix yourself (Advanced player or Tour Professional), then you should start to work on your longer clubs. As you also may know every golf swing is the same. The only difference between certain clubs is the set-up.
The best way to go about a practice session after a bad game is firstly booking in with a coach to know exactly what occurred or if you're already very sure of what drill to implement to fix the problem, head to the Driving Range and start your session with your shorter clubs. After you start seeing results and are sure you're fixing the heart of the issue then start to hit your longer clubs starting with your 6 iron. I would keep going down until you reach your Driver. Try and not spend anymore than 6 shots per club. Also a good tip when you're practicing is hitting every second club. For example going from an 8 iron to then a 6 and then onto a 4 iron.
When observing Tour Players you will see this same routine used. Since they are doing longer sessions, you will often see them start with their SW and hit very short pitches up to 50M. They will then start using longer and longer clubs. What they are trying to do is no matter what they use, they try and swing with the same tempo each time. This is the trick to being really consistent. If you talk to any advanced player and ask if they have a favorite club, they will often say no because no matter what club they have in their hands, they try and swing the exact same way.
